Massachusetts Vigil Week
The residents of Massachusetts took up constant prayer starting at 12am on June 20, 2010 and continuing through June 26, 2010. The vigil is over, but our witness for justice continues.About the Vigil and Continuing Witness
SB 1070, the anti-immigration bill that recently became law in Arizona has galvanized the faith community to stand with our immigrant brothers and sisters and stand against those who seek to divide our communities and distract from the real solution to our broken immigration system: comprehensive immigration reform.
In response to a wave of states proposing similar legislation to SB 1070, and in solidarity with the faith and immigrant communities in Arizona, we are spending the eight weeks prior to the implementation of SB 1070 in constant prayer and public witness, inspired by Isaiah 58, which teaches us that a “true fast” is undertaken in service of “loosening the chains of injustice.”
While the fast and vigil are now over, our witness for justice continues. We're collecting signatures in opposition to anti-immigrant legislation. Sign our petition today and help keep anti-immigrant legislation out of your state.

We, as people of faith recognize and affirm the presence and contributions of immigrants to our state. We strongly urge you to reject any legislation resembling Arizona's SB 1070, a law that denies due process for immigrants, increases the likelihood of racial profiling, and criminalizes those who offer direct aid for immigrants. What is needed to fix our broken immigration system is leadership by the federal government – that is, the President and members of Congress from both parties - to enact humane, comprehensive immigration reform that reunites families and provides a pathway to legal status for those who are undocumented.
